# Adaptive Bounds (retired): Spend Flexibility now follows your budget

<aside>

ℹ️

**Adaptive Bounds has been retired.** Every Spend Flexibility setting now scales with the budget you enter, which is what Adaptive Bounds used to do. There is nothing to switch on.

If what you want is for Prescient to decide with as few limits as possible, choose **Unconstrained (0× to 5×)** in Spend Flexibility. Each line can drop to zero or grow to five times its Baseline.

For the full CSM decision guide, see When to use Optimization and Forecast.

## What changed

Spend Flexibility sets how far the plan may move each line away from its **Baseline**. A line's Baseline is its share of reference-period spend, applied to the plan budget. It's the same Baseline shown on the plan's results.

Before, the limits were measured against reference-period spend itself. A budget much larger or smaller than usual could fall outside them, and Adaptive Bounds widened them to fit. Now the limits follow the budget, so:

* **Medium (0.5× to 1.5×)** means each line can go as low as half its Baseline or as high as one and a half times it, at any budget.
* A budget twice the usual spend, or half of it, fits without any special setting.
* Fixed, Min spend and Max spend amounts are respected first. The other lines' Baselines share what remains.

## Plans that used Adaptive Bounds

* **Saved plans** still show Adaptive Bounds on their settings, so you can see how they ran.
* **Duplicating or re-running one** uses **Medium**, the range Adaptive Bounds was built around.

## Target and required-spend plans

When the plan finds the spend needed to reach a goal, the budget is only a ceiling, not the amount the plan will spend. For these plans the limits stay around reference-period spend.

## A simple customer explanation

> “Each line can move within the range you pick, measured against its share of your budget, so a bigger or smaller budget doesn't need any special setting.”

## Quick questions

### Does Spend Flexibility change the customer's budget?

No. It controls how far each line may move. The plan still spends the budget entered.

### Does this add campaigns for a bigger budget?

No. If the future campaign roster will be very different, for example Q4 with many more campaigns than today, choose **Forecast**.

### Does this guarantee a specific revenue result?

No. Results still depend on the customer's modeled media performance.
