Connector Setup

General Connector Creation Guide

šŸ“˜

Tip

The connector creation process is fairly straightforward, but we strongly encourage you to read this entire section before creating your first connector.

Proper data ingestion is essential to effective modeling, and data ingestion issues resulting from improper connector creation can significantly impact the time it takes to receive your initial model results.

The steps below outline a general process for creating integrations within Prescient. They may not perfectly align with a specific connector.

To connect a data source to Prescient:

  1. Navigate to your organization’s connectors page or select the connector during your initial onboarding process.
  2. Select the connector and click Connect to get started. This action will take you to the data integration creation screen.
    1. If the data source you are connecting is powered by Fivetran, you may be prompted to confirm that you agree to Fivetran accessing your data.
  3. Before you start the connection process, read the connection instructions on the screen in their entirety.
    1. For Prescient-powered connections, these instructions will be on the left side of the screen.
    2. For Fivetran-powered connections, they will be on the right side.
    3. If, while reading the instructions, you realize you have not completed all prerequisites, use your browser’s Back button to return to your organization’s connectors page in Prescient.
  4. Provide authorization. Connectors typically require authorization using one of the following methods:
    1. Authorizing through the data source: In this case, the connector will display an Authorize button. Clicking it will redirect you to the data source, where you can enter your credentials and grant access.
    2. Authorizing by sharing API keys or other credentials: In this case, the connector will prompt you to copy and paste access codes. The instructions will specify where to locate these credentials.
  5. Select which accounts to ingest (if applicable). Some connectors may require you to choose specific accounts within the integration you want to ingest.
    1. If the connector offers Sync All Accounts and Sync Specific Accounts, be sure to select Sync Specific Accounts and choose only those accounts you want ingested and modeled within Prescient. Including incorrect accounts in your initial sync may lead to data issues that require a full resync to resolve.
  6. Finalize the connection by clicking Save & Test.
    1. Some integrations may ask you to add or edit custom reports. Typically, you do not need to modify custom reports, and you can ignore that section in most cases.
    2. For Fivetran-powered connectors, clicking Save & Test will initiate tests to confirm your data is accessible. If you encounter issues, Fivetran will provide details. If you still have questions, please contact your CSM.

Warning #1

If, during the authorization process, you are asked to specify certain permissions (for example, Campaigns: Read Only), please do not change the preset permissions. Unless otherwise mentioned, connectors generally come with the permissions necessary to properly access your data. If you’re uncertain which permissions to grant, we recommend granting read access for all available options.

If you have concerns about which data is being accessed or whether you can disable access to specific data, please reach out to your CSM.

🚧

Warning #2

Regardless of the data source, we always recommend that the person with the highest possible level of access creates the connector. Some data integrations support different ā€œrolesā€ with varying levels of access. Prescient recommends that an Admin-level user create the connection.

Having the user with the highest level of access create the connector simplifies the connection process, reduces the likelihood of access issues, minimizes re-authorizations, and generally reduces the time it takes your organization to onboard to Prescient.
