Data Patching for New Customer Modeling

If your Prescient account uses New Customer modeling with an Amazon Selling Partner connector, you'll need to supply new customer data through our data patch process. This page explains why, who's affected, and how to get set up.

Background: what changed on Amazon's side

Amazon recently removed the anonymized buyer email field ([email protected]) from the Selling Partner Orders API response. This change was made without a deprecation notice and applies to both the v0 and v2026-01-01 versions of the Orders API. You can follow the ongoing discussion in Amazon's GitHub issue tracker.

While the field is anonymized and not personally identifiable, Prescient previously used it to distinguish new customers from returning customers — a key input to New Customer modeling.

How this affects Prescient

To keep New Customer modeling running, we shifted to pulling this information from the GET_AMAZON_FULFILLED_SHIPMENTS_DATA_GENERAL report in Amazon's Reports API. This report still contains the anonymized buyer email, but it has tighter rate limits than the Orders API endpoint we previously relied on. For some customers, this means we can't reliably pull complete new customer history through the connector alone.

To make sure your New Customer models stay accurate and up to date, we ask affected customers to supply this data directly through our data patch process.

Who needs to take action

You need to use the data patch process if both of the following are true:

  • You have an Amazon Selling Partner connector set up with Prescient.
  • You are using an Amazon Seller Central account.
  • Your Prescient account uses New Customer modeling. If you're not sure whether New Customer modeling is enabled for your account, reach out to your Prescient contact.

How the data patch works

The data patch is a structured document where you supply new customer data on a recurring basis. Thanks to a recent improvement to our patching workflow, you only need to provide new customer data — you don't need to duplicate revenue data that we're already pulling through the connector.

To get started:

  1. Go to your connectors page and click the data patch icon for Amazon Selling Partner connector.
  2. Populate the template with new customer data.
  3. Save the completed data patch document in the form provided in our UI.

FAQ

Will Amazon restore the buyer email field? It's unclear. The change was made without notice and Amazon has not committed to a timeline. We're tracking the issue and will update this page if anything changes. We are researching how to get the necessary permissions to support this in the future.

Do I still need to submit patches if Amazon restores the field? No — if and when the data becomes reliably available through the API again, we'll remove the patching requirement and notify affected customers.

What happens if I don't submit the patch? Your New Customer modeling outputs may become incomplete or stale, which can affect attribution accuracy for new-customer-focused reporting.

How often do I need to update the data? New Customer data is not required for modeling but helps inform better priors. You can update the data daily or if it is easier weekly will work as well.
